 Communications Assistant

Duty Station: Kyiv, Ukraine

Classification: General Service Staff, Grade G4

Type of Appointment: SST, 6 months, with possibility of extension

Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

 Closing Date: 21 February 2018

Core Functions / Responsibilities:Under overall supervision of the CoM and direct supervision of the Communications and Outreach Officer, the incumbent will work to provide communications support to the Mission’s units, specifically in relation to public information and visibility.

  1. Assist in implementing/organizing communications and outreach activities to foster IOM’s visibility among its governmental, non-governmental, international partners and the Ukrainian society providing for the efficiency and sustainability of the Mission’s external and internal communications and supporting the organization’s objectives.
  1. Draft and edit the Mission’s and individual programmes’/projects’ newsletter/circular, promotional, visibility, analytical, and administrative publications, products, and materials.
  1. In coordination with the supervisor, maintain and update the Mission’s online and social media resources, ensuring sustainable and timely dissemination of the Mission’s key messages.
  1. Provide support in drafting articles, briefs, press announcements, press releases, and responding to media inquiries related to the work of the Mission and IOM globally.
  1. Facilitate the preparation of the Mission’s and individual programmes’/projects’ information and promotional materials and publications by assisting monitoring the work of external designers as well as printing companies/service providers.
  1. Liaise with external photographers, video production companies, etc. to ensure high quality photo and video materials on the wide range of the Mission activities in the country.
  1. Assist in the organization of public awareness campaigns and events on different aspects of Mission work.
  1. Assist with the media review of topics related to the work of IOM in the national, regional and global contexts.
  1. Liaise with global and local media and communications counterparts of other international and donor organizations in Ukraine, Ukrainian Government and civil society structures.
  2. Provide Ukrainian-English and English-Ukrainian informal translation of various documents and materials, when necessary.
  3. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

 Education

  • High school Degree with at least 4 years of professional work experience preferably in journalism, communications, public relations or relevant sphere.

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from accredited academic institution (preferably in communications, journalism, media studies, social or cultural sciences) with at least 2 years of professional work experience.

 Experience

  • Experience in writing articles and editing, with good storytelling and reporting skills.
  • Good analytical skills and ability to work with large amounts of information.
  • Knowledge of and interest in migration.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience in written translation and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of the Ukrainian media landscape and network of contacts with the media representatives will be an asset. 
  • Advanced PC knowledge, acquaintance with data visualization tools and/or graphic design skills will be an asset.

Languages

Fluency in English, Ukrainian and Russian is required.
