Chemonics International, a global consulting and international development firm, seek a Large Business Development Specialist, long-term position, for the USAID-funded Competitive Economy Program (CEP). CEP is a seven year, $170M program, which promotes a strong, diverse, and open economy by enhancing the business environment for Ukrainian enterprises, improving the competitiveness of emerging and high-growth industries and their firms in international markets and equipping the Ukrainian workforce with skills necessary for reconstruction and rebuilding the economy.
The Large Business Development Specialist (Specialist) will work closely with large manufacturing and services companies to assess the financial needs of these companies and identify opportunities for grants, investments, and other forms of financing. The Specialist’s primary objective will be to connect these businesses with relevant finance providers, facilitating the application process and ensuring successful financing to promote job creation and increase sales.
The Specialist will coordinate closely with CEP technical specialists focused on other program components with the deputy chief of party and chief of party and with the communications, monitoring evaluation and learning (MEL), and grants & subcontracts unit.
The Large Business Development Specialist’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of large manufacturing and services companies to identify their financial requirements.
- Determine suitable forms of financing, including grants and investments, necessary for business growth.
- Research and identify finance providers tailored to the unique needs of each company.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with finance providers, ensuring seamless communication between companies and providers.
- Facilitate the application process and provide necessary support to secure financing for the companies.
- Assist companies in preparing for financial and ESG audits, offering guidance and resources for successful audits and to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Identify sectors and companies within those sectors with the potential for job creation.
- Develop and implement innovative job creation initiatives, focusing on upskilling programs and additional employment opportunities.
- Collaborate with selected companies and sectoral associations to enhance workforce capabilities and promote employment.
- Work collaboratively with counterpart staff and the project team.
- Map potential CEP’s grantees/other support recipients and facilitate CEP’s work with such recipients.
- Participate as a member of the grants evaluation committee, act as tech lead in grant pre-award, implementation and post-closure stages, demonstrating proven leadership when evaluating, supervising and finalizing respective initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manufacturing and Services Advisor, Deputy Chief of Party, Chief of Party, or their designees.
The required and/or preferred qualifications for the Specialist position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in economic, business administration, or related field required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in or with private sector, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in financial consulting, grant management, or investment analysis, preferably in international development contexts.
- Demonstrated experience in financial and ESG audits, and grant application processes.
- Prior experience in the implementation of USAID-funded projects involving multiple partners and host country counterparts is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with local organizations, governments, and particularly the private sector.
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
- Ability to travel locally to meet with project stakeholders in different regions of Ukraine.
- Fluency in English and Ukrainian is required.
