Global Communities, formerly CHF International, is an international non-profit organization that works closely with communities worldwide to bring about sustainable changes that improve the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerable. Global Communities is responding to the crisis and war in Ukraine, delivering humanitarian assistance through a community-led response. Global Communities’ response is designed with the goal of saving lives, reducing suffering, and addressing urgent needs while supporting communities to lead their own response and setting them up for recovery.  

Global Communities is implementing the 18-month, Community-Led Emergency Action and Response (CLEAR) program with support from the United States Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) to respond to humanitarian needs in Ukraine. The program is designed with the goal of saving lives, reducing suffering, and addressing needs while supporting communities to lead their own response.

Job Summary 

The Communications Officer will support the Communications, Reporting & Knowledge Management Manager in the development and management of program internal and external communications, including drafting quarterly program reports. Level of Effort is full time. This position will be based in our head office in Kyiv, Ukraine. 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES  

The Communications Officer is responsible for the following: 

  • Assist in the day-to-day management of project website, Facebook page and other social media pages, with an emphasis on community building and adherence to all communications guidelines. 
  • Translate all content between English and Ukrainian as needed. 
  • Follow up on and analyze all the feeds from the project website and the social media pages, translate and prepare reports for internal use. 
  • Identify and evaluate new methods to keep the website and the social media pages rich and аctive, ensuring relevancy for the target audience.
  • Flag issues and make recommendations based on social media and website activity. 
  • Assist in drafting communication messages and coordinate with various departments as needed to support them in dissemination. 
  • Assist the Communications, Reporting & Knowledge Management Manager in developing organizational messaging and supporting community engagement initiatives. 
  • Draft quarterly program reports in collaboration with relevant staff. 

Working Relationships 

This position reports to the Communications, Reporting & Knowledge Management Manager. 

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • A university degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field. One year relevant work experience may substitute each year needed to complete the degree. 
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in an NGO or private company in media, communications or similar work. 
  • Previous work experience with an international organization is desirable, but not required. 
  • Experience working with refugees and/or IDPs preferred. 
  • Experience in consolidating information into logical reports desirable. 
  • Experience with translation (Ukrainian <-> English). 

Technical Skills

  • High analytical and reporting skills. 
  • Team player with excellent planning skills. 
  • Ability to solve problems in a politically sensitive and quickly changing environment. 
  • Computer/word processing and standard office software skills.
