Consultants in Gamification and Interactive methods for the Media and Information Literacy programme for Juniors

TERMS OF REFERENCE

DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle’s centre for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue.

DW Akademie is looking for motivated Ukrainian media professionals willing to join the team of MIL (media and information literacy) experts project scheduled for September 2023 – December 2025. It is envisaged to support the DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team (PMA) in development of the educational materials and designing the interactive methodology.

The MIL consultancy work envisages a mix of the journalism knowledge, understanding of the methodology in the work with juniors (12-17 years old), and skills to design the educational materials for the named target audience.
From the team of the MIL consultants (2-3 persons) will be expected a range of deliverables:

 

1. Deliverables

Preparatory Phase

  • Design and testing of the MIL games and interactive materials

Consultancy Duties

  • Offline and online consultancy on the development of the training MIL materials
  • Methodological support to the MIL trainers involved in the programme
  • Preparation and delivery of MIL TTT (train-the-trainer training), equipping the trainers’ team with designed interactive materials and MIL games
  • MIL support to the Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team in creating content related to MIL topics
  • Quality Management to ensure that the MIL trainings are of high professional quality and do not contravene grant objectives.

Communication

  • Frequent communication with DW Akademie project staff regarding the status of the development of the MIL creations
  • Regular feedback on the identified training needs or specific expertise for the MIL trainers and the programme target audience (juniors)

 

2. Qualifications

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in working in the Ukrainian professional media sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop MIL products in different formats from A to Z.
  • Previous experience in mentoring, teaching, providing any kind of capacity-building to students and media professionals.
  • Experience with Gamification and interactive teaching methods
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English.
  • Good communication skills and patient to work both with the DW Akademie project team and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team.

Desirable

  • Experience in development training programmes for the children and youth
  • Experience in working with international media development organisations.
  • Completed Train-the-Trainer trainings (capacity building programme for the trainers)
  1. Working Framework
  • Participation in a mandatory online on-boarding session with DW Akademie and PMA Juniors teams
  • Participation in the regular (mostly bi-monthly) meetings to provide feedback
  • to the DW Akademie team after each activity.
  • Envisaged timeframe for providing consultancy September 2023 – December 2025.
  • Expected scope of work: up to 6 working days per month.
  • 150 euro a day (gross).
