EU Project “MediaFit Programme for Information Integrity in Southern and Eastern Ukraine”
Mentors for Content Production
TERMS OF REFERENCE
DW Akademie is looking for motivated Ukrainian media professionals willing to join the team of MediaFit mentors for the fourth and last season of the Creators Fund scheduled for October – December 2023. It is dedicated to podcasting and envisaged to provide up to 12 content production grants. More details here.
The mentorship is at the heart of the Creators Fund vision to facilitate an innovative creative process. It will start after the training course is accomplished. The mentors will be paired to up to 6 creators (journalists or media teams) to provide an individual practice-oriented and constructive guidance during the entire process from content development to production and publication process. Mentors support the DW Akademie project team ensure the successful completion of the podcast product.
1. Expected Deliverables
Preparatory Phase
- Participation in the mandatory online on-boarding session for mentors (tentative October 2023).
- Attendance of the training sessions to assure the follow-up mentorship corresponds to the requirements and guidelines delivered by the trainers to the Creators (tentative October – mid-November).
Mentoring Duties
- Offline and online mentorship of the Creators including – but not limited to – consulting on research, scripting, staffing, budget, production process (pre-production, production, postproduction), marketing, publishing and all other stages of creating and publishing a media product.
- Quality Management to ensure that the produced content is of high professional quality, in line with the creators’ guidelines, corresponds to expected editorial quality standards and does not contravene EU Grant objectives.
Communication
- Frequent communication with DW Akademie project team regarding the status of the individual productions.
- A monthly report summarising mentoring efforts.
2. Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in working in the Ukrainian professional media sector.
- Demonstrated ability to develop media products in different formats from A to Z. Preference is given to those with podcasting experience.
- Previous experience in mentoring, teaching, providing any kind of capacity-building to students and media professionals.
- Fluency in Ukrainian and English.
- Good communication skills and patient to work both with the DW Akademie project team as well as the assigned Creators.
Desirable
- Experience with media content distribution and promotion, especially of podcasts.
- Professional journalistic or other media-related education is preferred.
- TTT/TTeT training by DW Akademie would be an asset.
- Experience in working with international media development organisations.
3. Working Framework
- Participation in a mandatory online on-boarding session for mentors in October 2023.
- Attendance of the training sessions to assure the follow-up mentorship corresponds to the guidelines delivered by the trainers (tentative October – mid-November).
- Participation in the regular (mostly weekly) meetings to provide feedback on the mentorship process.
- Individual work with creators, including flexible working hours agreed with creators and adjusted to your own daily routine.
- Compilation of a monthly written report to the DW Akademie team.
- Envisaged timeframe for providing mentorship: November – December 2023.
- Expected scope of work: up to 20 working days (4 days for attending the trainings and 16 days for providing mentorships spread over three months).
- 120 euro a day (gross).

5. Project Description
DW Akademie, Germany’s leading organisation for international media development department of Deutsche Welle, in partnership with Transtele Canal France International (CFI) and Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT) implement the 36-month project “MediaFit Programme for building Information Integrity in southern and eastern Ukraine” (ENI/2021/423-657).

The Creators Fund is one core element of MediaFit. Launched in February 2022, the regional programme is providing content support for up to 60 independent media productions. The goal of the Creators Fund is to help produce non-news products that connect with the needs of regional target audiences. The fund will act as a capacity-building catalyst in regions with a low level of investment in independent media.
