DW Akademie is looking for a local social media specialist willing to join the team of MediaFit for the period of May-December 2023. It is expected that the specialist will manage the project’s Telegram channel “First Media Aid” and support the team with the content creation and adaptation for our distribution channels: project’s website, MediaFit newsletter and Facebook page.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

  1. Project Description

 DW Akademie, Germany’s leading organisation for international media development department of Deutsche Welle, in partnership with Transtele Canal France International (CFI) and Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT) implement the 36-month project “MediaFit Programme for building Information Integrity in southern and eastern Ukraine” (ENI/2021/423-657).

The MediaFit project, which started in June 2021 and is funded by the EU and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is an ambitious initiative designed to support the resilience and qualification of regional journalists in Ukraine. The MediaFit team has been working hard to respond to the most pressing needs of journalists by providing shelter, working space and equipment, as well as digital security and psychological support for over 200 journalists in the regions.  

DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle’s centre for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue.    

Telegram channel “First Media Aid” was launched in June 2022. Evaluation showed the channel is on demand by the local media representatives and journalists therefore the DW Akademie team decided to further continue functioning and development of this channel.  

The new strategy suggests shifting the channel focus to a more educational one and supporting the activities within the MediaFit programme. The channel continues to be an instrument for the training program implementation with a possibility to create and share educational materials, explainer videos and short trainings.  

  1. Expected Deliverables

- Managing the 2023 curriculum and content plan for the topics: physical safety, digital security, mental health and other topics related to journalistic work in Ukraine under war circumstances (in collaboration with specialized experts when necessary).  

- Strategy 2023 implementation including cooperation with editors, specialized consultants, invited guests, video creators and editors. 

- Choosing specialized experts for specific topics development taking into account the training aspect. 

- Following the target audience needs in content and training. 

- Development of content for the channel in a social media messenger together with experts. 

- Revision of the 2023 strategy in July-August 2023.  

- Drawing the final report about the channel functioning and training activities and their effectiveness at the end of 2023.  

- Supporting the project’s visibility manager with creating content in the Ukrainian language for the MediaFit distribution channels: website, newsletter and Facebook page. Co-creation and promotion of the content. 

- Visibility support during the MediaFit events and activities.   

  1. Qualifications
    Essential
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in working in the Ukrainian professional media sector. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop media productions in different formats from A to Z. 
  • Experience with media content distribution and promotion.
  • Previous experience in content creation for the social media and community management. 
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English. 
  • Good communication skills and desire to be part of the DW Akademie project team. 

Desirable  

  • Professional journalistic or other media-related education is preferred. 
  • Experience in working with international media development organisations will be an asset.  

 4. Working Framework 

  • Participation in the regular (mostly bi-weekly) meetings to discuss the content plan and achievements. 
  • Individual work on social media management and content creation including flexible working hours agreed with the MediaFit project team and adjusted to your own daily routine. 
  • A final report to the DW Akademie team in December 2023. 
  • Envisaged timeframe for providing mentioned deliverables: May-December 2023. 
  • Expected scope of work: up to 30 working days. 
  • 150 euro a day (gross).
