Media and Information Literacy trainer
for the educational programme – cooperation between DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne

TERMS OF REFERENCE
DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle’s centre for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue.
DW Akademie is looking for motivated Ukrainian media professionals willing to join the team of MIL (media and information literacy) project in the period of July 2024 – December 2025 to support the DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team (PMA) in the development of educational materials and design of the interactive methodology.
The MIL trainer’s work envisages a mix of experience as a trainer for teenagers, journalism knowledge, understanding of the methodology and approach to juniors (12-17 years old), and skills in designing the educational materials for the named target audience.
The team of MIL trainers (2-3 persons) will be expected to provide a range of deliverables:
- Deliverables
Preparatory Phase
- Design engaging and age-appropriate media literacy curricula meeting the needs and interests of teenagers.
- Develop the trainer matrix for the discussed activities (workshops, trainings, masterclasses).
Trainer Tasks
- Create comprehensive educational resources, including lesson plans, activities, and multimedia materials
- Сonduct offline and online classes
- Stay updated on the latest trends, research, and best practices in media literacy education for teenagers, integrate innovative approaches into training programs
- Realisation of the discussed activities.
- Participate in networking sessions among trainers to share ideas, resources and experiences in teaching media literacy to adolescents.
Communication
- Frequent communication with DW Akademie project team and PMA juniors project team regarding the status of the MIL training development
- Regular feedback on identified training needs or specialized knowledge for MIL trainers and the program target audience.
- Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in working in the Ukrainian professional media sector.
- Experience in conducting trainings for teenagers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop MIL products in different formats from A to Z.
- Previous experience in mentoring, teaching, providing any kind of capacity-building to students and media professionals.
- Experience with Gamification and interactive teaching methods
- Fluency in Ukrainian and English.
- Good communication skills and patience to work both with the DW Akademie project team and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team.
Desirable
- Experience in development and providing training programmes for children and youth.
- Experience in working with international media development organisations.
- Completed Train-the-Trainer trainings (capacity building programme for the trainers)

- Online and offline
- Participation in a mandatory online on-boarding session with DW Akademie and PMA Juniors teams
- Participation in the regular (mostly bi-monthly) meetings to provide feedback
- Narrative reporting to the DW Akademie team after each activity.
- Expected engagement time frame: September 2024 – December 2025.
- Expected scope of work: up to 6 working days per month.
