The Program Summary
Ukraine has been at war since February 2022, and civilians continue suffering from air attacks on infrastructure, challenging economic situations, and their personal challenges as leaving everything behind and moving to safer places. Thus, the strategy of Mercy Corps Ukraine focuses on providing humanitarian assistance, as well as economic opportunities for war-affected Ukrainians.
Mercy Corps supports conflict-affected populations with swift and sustained humanitarian assistance and community-driven investments that strengthen local partnerships, promote economic resilience and innovation, and build a more just and inclusive society.
The Position
Mercy Corps maintains its accounting and management records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies and procedures. In connection with the introduction of the requirement for mandatory accounting and reporting in accordance with Ukrainian national standards, MC is expanding its finance team. We are looking for a person to join the team who, together with other members, will work with primary documentation. The key requirement is experience in primary accounting, knowledge of the rules for preparing primary documents and legal requirements for their execution. Experience in accounting for «tangible» accounts, such as fixed assets, intangible assets, and other materials, is especially (but not exclusively) welcome.
Essential Responsibilities
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Actively learns about safeguarding and integrates it into their work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations related to their area of work.
- Practices the values of Mercy Corps including respecting the dignity and well-being of participants and fellow team members.
- Encourages openness and communication in their team; encourages team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options.
Main Responsibilities
- Accounting for fixed assets in the BAS for accounting CORP system: receipt, commissioning, movement, disposal — a full cycle of all business operations.
- Accounting for intangible assets in the BAS for accounting CORP system: receipt, commissioning, movement, disposal — a full cycle of all business operations.
- Setting up accounting parameters and execution of the document «ZO-1.Commissioning».
- Participation in the inventory by the accounting department.
- Inventory and low-value items accounting.
- Сontrol of depreciation accrual.
- Accounting for fuel costs.
- Work with primary documents in other areas of accounting.
Obligation
Financial Assistant is responsible for the quality and timely execution of the assigned tasks of the manager; following the rules of internal labor regulations, tasks and duties assigned by this Instruction.

Accountability
Reports Directly To: Senior finance accountant, Department of Finance and Compliance, Ukraine Response
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- confident PC user: Microsoft Office, BAS
- skills in working with regulatory sources
- experience in accounting for «tangible» accounts, such as fixed assets, intangible assets, and other materials, is especially (but not exclusively) welcome
- perseverance and attention to detail
- ability to work in a team, good communication skills
- English language skills at least A2: Pre-Intermediate leve
Success Factors
The successful candidate must be competent, attentive to detail, motivated and balanced to ensure thorough document review and accurate accounting in the material accounting area.

During the field trips living conditions will be adjusted to the field conditions.
