Job Title: Interpreter and Translator
Duty Station: Kyiv, on-site work in the city center with regular trips to the Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. Full-time position for Ukrainian nationals only.
Reporting Line: Interpreter and Translator reports to the Head of Mission.
Scope of the Position: The Interpreter and Translator will have a key role in supporting coordination, communication, and translation activities. With overall direction of the Head of Mission and working as an integral part of the CESVI’s Team, the incumbent will be ensuring maximum professionalism and adding capacity in supporting the CESVI activities in Ukraine in its response to the humanitarian crisis and its assistance to the most vulnerable population affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Ensure proper and accurate translation of CESVI internal and external documents from one language to another.
- Serve as interpreter at meetings, teleconferences and workshops, providing consecutive translation between languages.
- Work closely with various CESVI Teams and its partners to provide necessary interpretation services during their regular field visits.
- Accompany CESVI foreign staff on visits to local public institutions for necessary interpretation services.
- Participate in the organization of field visits, meetings, trainings, workshops and other activities and provide translation and interpretation services.
- Facilitate effective communication and comprehension between parties.
- Maintain positive working relationships within CESVI colleagues and its partners.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Languages:
English, Ukrainian and Russian.
Qualifications:
- Minimum a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or equivalent work experience in related field is required.
- University Degree in translation, English language, would be desirable, but it is not a requirement.
Professional experience:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Interpretation and Translation.
- Background on mental health terminology or medical vocabulary is an asset.
- Relevant experience in working with a humanitarian agency or organization, NGO or civil society organization is desirable.
- Experience working with vulnerable groups and providing humanitarian assistance is an advantage.
Skills and Competences:
- Strong writing, reading, and speaking skills in English required.
- Proficiency in Ukrainian and Russian is required.
- Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment.
- Readiness for regular business trips in the Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions based on the accessibility and safety conditions in the area.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize a varied workload and work to deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Flexible and with positive attitude.
