Job Title: Media and Society Research Analyst

Background

The USAID Ukraine Transformation Communications Activity (TCA) is a six-year Activity whose purpose is to partner with the Government of Ukraine (GOU), the private sector, and civil society to increase the resilience of Ukraine’s democracy through innovative communications initiatives that engage Ukrainians in a conversation about the country’s democratic transformation and European integration. The Activity’s objectives are to equip USAID and its partners to conduct data-driven communications, increase the quality and quantity of strategic communications on reform dividends and broaden the use of social impact content by Ukraine’s civic leaders and creative sector. 

The Media and Society Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative research on public perceptions of vibrant media issues and Ukrainian society transition both within and outside of Ukraine. This role supports TCA’s research and analytics team in implementing technical activities and contributes to building an ecosystem to foster a data-driven approach within the sphere of strategic communication in Ukraine.

Principal Duties and Obligations (Essential Functions)

As Media and Society Research Analyst, the Employee is responsible for the following principal duties and obligations:

• Support the research and analytics team in reviewing donor-supported social media monitoring, surveys, and other instruments. Support the Director and Manager on nationwide research efforts on media consumption, media trends, public perceptions, etc.
• Support the research and analytical team in message testing for TCA’s and partners’ nationwide and international communication campaigns.
• Support the research and analytical team in preparation and managing qualitative studies within the communication sphere.
• Conduct research debriefing for partners and the TCA team and build trusted relationships with external experts and TCA’s partners to foster a data-driven mindset within the Government of Ukraine and civil society.
• Support the research and analytics team in planning and implementing research efforts related to media, marketing, advocacy, policy, outreach, and operational issues to inform the development and implementation of TCA activities.
• Support counterpart attendees, beneficiaries, and vendors at program activities, such as training or conferences, to ensure efficient participation. 
• Support the research and analytics team to conduct research, perform data analysis, general reports and findings, and create graphics to support reporting requirements.
• Closely liaise with the monitoring and evaluation team to support project reporting needs.
• Monitor ongoing activities, including social media monitoring, attending activity events, gathering the information requested by TCA staff, writing updates and brief analytical reports on the activity impact and progress using web analytical tools, attend coordination meetings for project development and implementation. 
• Ensure clarity and accuracy of written internal and external correspondence in English, Ukrainian, and Russian as required. 
• Provide high-quality reports, and communication materials, including fact sheets, press releases, success stories, leaflets, brochures, etc in English.
• Assist the technical team in data collection and analysis as assigned.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, the Employee must be able to perform each essential duty, obligation, and responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete the principal assignments.

Experience working on research teams or think tanks.

• Experience in research projects dedicated to international relationships and international strategic communication preferred.
• Experience working in a related research field e.g sociological research, media studies research, international media research, media analytics etc.
• Familiarity with thecommunication field in Ukraine and at the international level.
• Ukrainian and English fluency, with excellent presentation skills and a solid ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including in writing, in both languages. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills in interacting with Ukrainian and international colleagues, counterparts, business representatives, or community members. 
• Demonstrated creative thinking, initiative, and self-motivation in handling all assigned tasks. 
• University degree in relevant field is required. 
• Ability to work professionally and constructively as part of a team, meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and deal with diverse environments. 
• Experience working on USAID or donor-funded programs preferred.
• Understanding gender and social inclusion good practices applied to research sphere.
