SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine is the part of the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages International (SOS CV). As a non-governmental social development organization, we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners.

For the new long-term project, in alliance with Danish partner organizations, we are going to pilot a model for rebuilding sustainable child- and youth care in Ukraine. The project will consist of “hard” and “soft” components, which includes the construction and social parts.

For the realization of this project we are looking for an experienced and committed

Construction Manager (f/m)

The Construction Manager of the Project will be continuously involved through all project phases from inception to project close-out.

Location: Ukraine

Duration: up to 4 years starting from 2024

Requirements:

  • University degree in Construction, Architecture or other related fields.
  • At least 5 years of overall all-round construction sector experience.
  • Experience in representing the Organization in meetings etc. with the other project parties (local consultants, local contractor, local authorities).
  • Knowledge and skills in project management: preparation of relevant documentation, budget planning and execution, project reporting.
  • Ability to set tasks for contractors, monitor the quality and timeliness of work, calculate and respond to potential risks that may affect the performance of work.
  • Result and solution oriented.
  • Looking for fair compromises, transparent and positive cooperation. Good governance is a must.
  • Excellent organisational and problem solving skills, strong negogiation skills. Ability to work in a multitasking environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, work under pressure and cope with stress.
  • Proficiency in English and Ukrainian, written and spoken.
  • Good proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and  online video conferencing tools (MS Teams, Zoom etc.).
  • Sharing the values, aims and objectives of organisation, and commitment to humanitarian principles and international humanitarian standards.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the detailed project execution plan in the context of the hard component.
  • Handle the procurement process in regards of the hard component, according to the Organization`s guidelines.
  • Making the tender for the construction company(ies).
  • Monitoring the construction company building process.
  • Ensuring transparent cost reporting.
  • Managing changes and claims.
  • Elaboration of project milestone reports.
  • Value engineering input.
  • Risk management.
  • Assistance in snags review and hand-over.
  • Note and report lessons learned so they can be transferred to subsequent construction sites.
  • Ensuring the implementation of the hard component of the project in accordance with the contract and donor`s requirements.
  • Participation in the selection and appointment of the local design team.
  • Ensures that child safeguarding and child protection are streamlined in all operations and activities.
  • Ensures adherence to SOS CV policies and procedures as well as to international humanitarian standards and principles.
