Requirements:

  • The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is seeking a suitable candidate for an exciting opportunity to join an international team instigating change, and delivering projects that promote sustainable economic growth in Eastern Ukraine.
  • Advanced university degree in agriculture, economics, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of work experience in the field of agricultural sector and / or Agri-Food development.
  • Experience in agricultural policy development.
  • Strong knowledge of Ukraine’s socio-economic context.
  • Experience in development activities in rural areas, and leading change.
  • Experience in business development or local economic development
  • Working knowledge of English.

Tasks and duties:

  • Team Player. Possess excellent inter-personal skills, to liaise and build relationships with stakeholders, our EU donors, and partners as well as internal delivery team
  • Working with a team of international experts you will be responsible for helping to coordinate the introduction of innovation and change within the agriculture sector in Ukraine.
  • Candidate must be highly energised and motivated with a high level of commitment and ability to working in a fast moving environment.
  • Be a strong communicator, and be willing to lead change in rural areas. This may involve running training courses, hosting farmer consultations, and introducing new business models into the agriculture and food sectors that are in-line with international best practice.
  • International Co-operation. Work closely with our European experts to create and instigate international cooperative standard development within Ukraine, and present the standard to all relevant stakeholders (UN agencies, International NGOs, Hromadas, etc.)
  • Lead Change. Carry out and / or instigate informational campaigns as instructed to promote the establishment of new business models among farmers and other stakeholders. Champion the promotion of new Agri-Food organisation structures, such as co-operatives, as a model for economic growth and a means for good corporate governance.
  • Knowledge Transfer. Develop recommendations for training programmes and deliver designated training programs for agricultural cooperatives. Monitor and communicate the progress of individual co-ops for their adherence to good governance practice and shareholder interaction.
  • Business Development. Provide day-to-day consultancy support and guidance for farmers and agricultural aggregators. Support the dissemination of the project outputs/activities.
  • Support the coordination of the project’s technical activities with our partner United Nations colleagues at UNDP and other stakeholders. Provide day-to-day technical consultancy support and guidance to Field Office Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the final report and deliverables of the project which will be presented to our UN Donors.
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

Terms and conditions:

  • You will operate from a Home Base, but shall be required to undertake frequent travel to Eastern Ukraine, as required, primarily to Government Controlled Areas of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.
  • The is initially a part-time position. The successful candidate will receive a renumeration package with competitive pay and conditions.
