About the ENGAGE activity
Pact, a non-profit organization based in Kyiv, Ukraine is implementing a USAID-funded project Enhance Non-Governmental Actors and Grassroots Engagement (ENGAGE) activity.
The purpose of ENGAGE is to increase citizen awareness of and engagement in civic activities at the national, regional and local level. ENGAGE focuses efforts at both the grassroots level to educate and activate citizens to engage in civic initiatives as well as the national and regional (oblast and rayon) levels to improve organizational capacities, build coalitions, support advocacy and watchdog initiatives. The ENGAGE activity primarily focuses on key democratic reforms and cross- cutting themes, such as: anti-corruption, civil education and transparency and accountability including electoral processes, inclusive development of various vulnerable groups, youth and EU integration.
Position is contingent upon funding.
Position Purpose
The Civic Education Program Officer will be responsible for the implementation of a range of ENGAGE and partners’ extra-curricular civic education activities. Under the supervision of Program Officer, Civic Education, s/he will also be responsible for collaborating directly with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Reintegration as well as with CSOs and their networks to ensure the implementation of extra-curricular civic education activities. S/he will also provide daily technical support to newly emerged civil society initiatives that seek to implement informational and educational activities for Ukrainians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support campaigns to build citizen awareness on demand for civic education and campaign connected to issues advocated by partner organizations.
- In coordination with MOES, MOYS and the Ministry of Reintegration develop and implement ENGAGE civic education activities.
- Create links, maintain relationships and work with CSOs to promote an informal civic education approach in their activities.
- Ensure networking, and experience exchange among ENGAGE informal civic education partners, creative groups, and institutions.
- Working in partnership with a diverse range of civic education groups in conjunction with the Marketing and Event Officer to support the implementation of civic education events. Events will be produced either in-house or externally by ENGAGE partners.
- Work with the ENGAGE communication team to ensure effective marketing and communications that deliver audiences to ENGAGE’s and partners’ events and activities.
- Produce written analysis in relation to civic education.
- Support the development of civic education resources for teachers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Relevant experience working within civic education in particular, in the coordination and promotion of informal civic education activities by civil society groups.
- Fluent in English and Ukrainian (both oral and written).
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a complex workload and deadlines.
- Good written communication skills, including the ability to conduct research and write clear and concise reports and analyses.
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups to positively influence others to achieve results.
- Proactivity, agility of mind, critical thinking, attentiveness to detail, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to routinely organize data and maintain procedures.
- Advanced level of keyboard skills and computer literacy in a variety of software applications (MS Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
- Excellent teamwork skills.
Preference for:
- Experience with international donor-funded programs, especially USAID-funded.
