How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030.
In accordance with the organisational mandate and national development priorities of Ukraine, UNFPA implements a country programme of technical assistance to Ukraine for 2018-2022 (extended till the end of 2023).
The war in Ukraine, which began on 24 February, has caused death and suffering on a dramatic scale and left at least 15.7 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and protection. There are now more than 6 million refugees and over 7 million internally displaced people (IDPs). Due to the fluid and rapidly changing security situation in Ukraine, which directly impacts IDP movements and spontaneous returns, the need for SRH emergency services has continued to exponentially increase.
UNFPA developed Humanitarian response plan aimed at provision of the integrated Life Saving GBV and SRH Services to the Affected Women and Girls.
UNFPA Ukraine CO is establishing its SRH Programme to focus on supporting national health system to prevent excessive maternal and newborn mortality and ensure access to emergency life-saving SRH services. The Programme will apply Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for SRH in crisis. Ensuring uninterrupted access to SRH care services, including family planning, STI management, skilled birth attendants and emergency obstetric and newborn health care for pregnant women and girls, referrals and emergency care for survivors of gender-based violence (including emergency contraception and PEP to prevent transmission of HIV), will be prioritized throughout the response. It will also support SRH coordination and continued, timely, safe access to essential quality SRH services.
The SRH Porgramme will be closely interlinked with GBV humanitarian response particularly to ensure referral and access of SGBV survivors to health services, including CMR.
UNFPA is seeking highly-motivated candidates that share our passion of making a sound contribution to addressing humanitarian needs of women and girls affected by the war, who can transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
