Danish Refugee Council (DRC) one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for Protection Assistant for the upcoming EU funded project (IcSP) that combines mine action activities with livelihoods restoration and community development support initiatives. This 2-year EU funded project aims to improve the overall resilience and physical safety of the population residing in the target rural communities of Luhansk oblast. Position will be based in Severodonetsk.
Protection Assistant will focus on support DRC-DDG field activities related to community development activities and ensure that needed results are delivered. The Protection Assistant will closely liaise with DRC-DDG mine action and livelihoods teams and will promote DRC-DDG values through various entry points in the project, preserving staff moral and enthusiasm for the project work.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Implement Protection activities, with a particular focus on Community Based Assistance;
- Support in planning and monitoring the project activities related with protection assistance. Ensure attainment of the protection targets;
- Coordinate with mine action and livelihoods teams engaged in project implementation;
- Contribute to the regular progress reports for the project donor;
- Represent DRC-DDG and participate in sectoral and relevant sub sectors/working groups when needed;
- Develop and maintain linkages with all key stakeholders related with the project;
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises related with documenting the impact of the project assistance activities;
- When necessary, provide back-up for other protection and livelihoods staff engaged in project implementation;
- Follow all DRC policies and procedures;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
About you
We expect you to have minimum 3 years of general working experience, minimum 1 year working for an INGO, preferably in protection sector and/or community development activities and relevant university degree (e.g. social work, law, psychology, international development) or equivalent professional qualification.
Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated generalist background in the development or humanitarian field and representation with community and governmental representatives.
Required experience and competencies
- Good communication, presentation and reporting skills;
- Good general planning skills;
- Understanding the essentials of protection work and community based assistance activities;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs;
- Advanced English proficiency, fluency in local language: Ukrainian, Russian.
Desirable:
- Experience in implementation of community based projects (creative and proactive approach is welcome);
- Strong facilitation skills for community work;
- Experience in management and planning of project budgets;
- Experience of working with Monitoring and Evaluation.

We offer
Contract length: till 31 of December 2020 with possibility of extension based on available funding.
