 Job title: Senior Drainage Specialist

Location: this position is based in Kyiv and project sites in Ukraine.

Level of Effort: Full-time, long-term position.

The role of the Senior Drainage Specialist entails supporting the International Irrigation Design and Construction Supervision Engineer (IIDCSE) in various facets of designing drainage infrastructure within irrigation systems. This encompasses collaborating on Terms of Reference (TOR) creation for additional services, aiding in drafting bidding documents, BOQs, and crafting technical specifications.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct detailed assessments of existing drainage systems within irrigation schemes.
  2. Evaluate hydrological conditions of the command area and soil-water interaction using appropriate software.
  3. Devise efficient and sustainable drainage solutions tailored to the unique requirements of irrigation projects.
  4. Offer technical guidance and assistance to project teams and local counterparts during drainage works implementation.
  5. Ensure adherence to technical standards, environmental regulations, and best practices in drainage engineering.
  6. Engage with relevant stakeholders, such as government agencies, contractors, and communities, to facilitate seamless implementation of drainage projects.
  7. Contribute to the development of technical reports concerning drainage infrastructure.
  8. Stay abreast of advancements in drainage technology and methodologies, integrating innovative approaches into project designs where applicable.

Supervision and Reporting:

The Senior Drainage Specialist reports to and is supervised directly by the IIDCSE

Qualifications:

  • Educational requirement of a Bachelor of Science degree (preferred) Minimum educational requirement of a qualified engineer, preferably irrigation engineer, agricultural engineer, or civil engineer.
  • At least 10 years of experience with drainage works in irrigation schemes in developing countries.
  • Familiarity with drainage system design software and tools
  • Familiarity with relevant international standards and guidelines for drainage engineering
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and supervision of drainage works for irrigation schemes on projects funded by USAID, EU, World Bank, ADB or other international donors.
  • Preference shall be given to individuals who have worked in or with the Ukrainian national or municipal government.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills in English, Ukrainian language skills a plus.
