 Job title: Solar Powered Irrigation Specialist (SPIS)

Location: this position is based in Kyiv and project sites in Ukraine.

Level of Effort: Full-time, long-term position.

The Solar Powered Irrigation Specialist (SPIS) will assist the International Irrigation design and construction supervision engineer (IIDCSE); SPIS would play a critical role in enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability through the adoption of solar-powered irrigation systems, promote environmentally friendly and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct assessments of irrigation needs and feasibility studies for the implementation of solar-powered irrigation systems.
  2. Design customized solar-powered irrigation solutions based on site-specific requirements and environmental conditions.
  3. Provide technical specifications and recommendations for the procurement of solar panels, pumps, controllers, and other necessary equipment.
  4. Support the installation, commissioning, and testing of solar-powered irrigation systems, including training for operators and maintenance staff.
  5. Develop operation and maintenance manuals for solar irrigation systems to ensure proper functionality and longevity.
  6. Monitor and evaluate the performance of installed systems, troubleshoot any issues, and recommend improvements as needed.
  7. Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote the adoption of solar irrigation technologies and build capacity at the grassroots level
  8. Assist IIDCSE to achieve program targets and deliverables as described in the program work plans and the contract.
  9. Participate in all meeting and workshops that involve Harvest irrigation/drainage design activities
  10. Keep the infrastructure manager and IIDCSE informed on significant issues involving A/E design services.

Supervision and Reporting

The Solar Powered Irrigation Specialist reports to and is supervised directly by the IIDCSE

Qualifications

  • Educational requirement of a Bachelor of Science degree (preferred) in agricultural engineering, renewable energy, or a related field.
  • 5 years experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of solar-powered irrigation systems, preferably in agricultural settings
  • Strong technical knowledge of solar energy technologies, including photovoltaic systems and solar water pumps
  • Familiarity with irrigation techniques, water management principles, and agronomic practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
  • preferably with solar powered irrigation on projects funded by USAID, EU, World Bank or other international donors.
  • Preference shall be given to individuals who have worked in or with the Ukrainian national or municipal government.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills in English, Ukrainian language skills a plus.
