The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs Political Parties Program:
The Political Parties Program at NDI works with parties across Ukraine to develop strong and sustainable internal party structures which assist in ensuring the citizens of Ukraine have a variety of viable choices of parties to represent their interests in government. The parties program covers a wide variety of assistance to parties. The parties team works directly with party leaders, the party’s elected officials including members of parliament and local government, and other party members and staff. Often, the team makes use of the expertise of international consultants to provide assistance to the parties who can offer practical examples from their personal experiences. Activities include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic sessions with party leadership including elected officials on specific topics or overall strategic direction of the party;
- Consultations on the creation or development of new party structures such as women’s wings, youth wings and so on;
- Development of schools or academies focusing on a specific topic or thematic areas (for example, an academy on women’s leadership, or a communications school for the parties communication staff);
- Assessments of the parties overall structure, or specific aspects of the party’s structure (for example, gender audits, to assess where the party currently stands in regards to women’s equality within the party);
- Assessments and consultations on policy development for structures within the party and positions within the party, to assist in ensuring clear, transparent and inclusive internal party structures and public policy positions;
- Consultations on topics including, but not limited to crisis communications, fundraising and project management, rebuilding the country in a post war environment, social media and digital organizing and electoral campaigning
- Training in online and offline formats on wide range of topics, which often include a ToT (training of the trainer) component where the party’s staff are trained to become trainers themselves who will go on to train more members of their party;
- Electoral training, offline and online, both in single party formats and multiparty formats;
- Support for regional forums to promote cross-sharing of information and learning across party local and regional branches and central office
NDI-Ukraine is currently seeking to fill the position as Program Assistant/Senior Program Assistant for the Political Party Program, based in Kyiv.
Job Title: Senior Program Assistant/Program Assistant, NDI Ukraine, Kyiv based position
Task and Responsibilities:
- Provide general assistance to all program operations and serve as primary support to the Senior Program Manager.
- Assist in planning and implementation of program activities with political parties.
- Follow and provide updates on the political situation in the country.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of program activities.
- Perform administrative duties as needed to support program activities, including data entry, arranging appointments, travel, preparing correspondence, and records maintenance.
- Provide oral translation at seminars, conferences, meetings and written translation of program materials as needed.
- Provide logistical arrangements for organizing program events and maintain logistical support to program staff during travel.
- Prepare meeting/activities notes, background information on political actors when needed.
- Assist with and provide back-up for the day-to-day operations of the program, responding to routine program inquiries, ensuring prompt and accurate forwarding of messages.
- Reconcile expenditures in accordance with NDI’s financial policies.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration or Linguistics with a focus on public communication;
- Ability to demonstrate a keen interest in government reforms and political processes;
- Work experience in a related field and understanding of the political and civic landscape in Ukraine is preferred;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Fluency in Ukrainian and English;
- Ability to work in organized manner, meet deadlines and work in a team;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required;
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs, Google suite);
