Translator / Interpreter Officer, НК ТЧХУ

Task description

• Oral interpretation: provide consecutive interpretation from Ukrainian to English and vice versa during meetings and trainings
• Written translation of documents/briefing materials, press releases, statements, letters, and human-interest stories, from English to Ukrainian or vice versa within specified deadlines
• Revision and proofreading: ensure full comparison of the original and translated texts, examine the document’s overall coherence, and provide a final check of text for typos, spelling, grammar, punctuation and spacing of the translation
• Perform terminology research to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all translations
• Be responsible for ensuring quality and accuracy of the entire document before submission
• Travels with the URCS staff (when needed) on their missions to the filed for interpretation and other assistance, as needed
• Taking and transcribing from dictation, recordings, and handwritten drafts
• Other translation or interpretation duties assigned by the supervisor

Desired profile and skills

• Excellent knowledge of Ukrainian and English
• 2 years of professional work experience. Previous interpreter or translator experience is an advantage
• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills
• Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing
• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners
• University education/degree in interpretation or translation is an advantage
• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet
• Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
• Open-minded and adaptable
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision
