in the educational programme – cooperation between DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne

TERMS OF REFERENCE
DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle’s centre for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue.
DW Akademie is looking for a trainer and consultant of the MIL (media and information literacy), who is willing to join the project in the period of March 2025 – December 2025 to support the DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team (PMA).
This work envisages a mix of experience as a consultant in methodology (with focus on innovative formats and gamification) and trainer for the other trainers, as well as a trainer in MIL for the children and young people and developer of the discussed with the project team formats, activities and MIL products (games, quizzes, guidelines, visual content, etc.).
The selected applicant will be expected to provide a range of deliverables:
1. Deliverables
● Developing supportive methodological materials for the MIL trainers: guidelines, trainer kits, etc.
● Design and realisation of the Train-the-Trainer trainings and feedback sessions. Methodological support for the trainers during and/or after their trainings and other connected to the project educational activities (e.g. MIL Roadshows);
● Doing research about the educational trends and ideation of the innovative approaches for the design of the educational activities;
● Support to the project team in development activities and educational content as a part of cooperation with Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
● Preparation and delivery of the MIL trainings and educational activities for the children and young people. Support to the project team with MIL expertise during the MIL Stand-up project;
● Support to the project team with the facilitation and consultancy during the ideation sessions on content creation as a part of the cooperation with the Public Media Academy Juniors;
● Support to the project team with the facilitation and consultancy during the MIL escape room campaigns and at the international events.
Communication
● Frequent communication with DW Akademie project team and PMA juniors project team regarding current activities.
● Regular feedback on identified needs of the MIL trainers and the target audience (children and young people).
2. Qualifications
Essential
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in working in the professional media and /or educational sector.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in working as a trainer.
• Completed Train-the-Trainer trainings (capacity building programme for the trainers)
• Experience in conducting trainings for teenagers.
• Experience in delivering trainings and coaching sessions to other trainers.
• Demonstrated ability to develop MIL products in different formats from A to Z.
• Previous experience in mentoring, teaching, providing any kind of capacity-building to students and media professionals.
• Experience with Gamification and interactive teaching methods.
• Fluency in English, Ukrainian is a bonus.
• Good communication skills and patience to work both with the DW Akademie project team and Public Media Academy Juniors of Suspilne team.
Desirable
• Experience in development and providing training programmes for children and youth.
• Experience in working with international media development organisations.
3. Working Framework
• Online and offline.
• Participation in strategical and evaluation sessions with DW Akademie and PMA Juniors teams.
• Participation in the regular (mostly bi-monthly) meetings to provide feedback.
• Narrative reporting to the DW Akademie team after each activity.
• Expected engagement time frame: March 2025 – December 2025.
• Expected scope of work: up to 34 days (incl. preparation).
