ESTIMATED PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE/LEVEL OF EFFORT: Long-term.
Background: The eight-year USAID Democratic Governance East (DG East) Activity aims to strengthen the connection and trust between citizens and their government in eastern and southern Ukraine by promoting an inclusive civic identity and common civic values and addressing the divisive impacts and the consequences of the ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine. DG East works to (1) develop greater acceptance of a shared civic culture based on common values and understandings, (2) increase participation to improve Ukraine’s governance and reform processes and help to resolve community problems and (3) Strengthening local economic recovery of relocated, newly liberated, and frontline communities in GOU-controlled eastern and southern Ukraine, DG East activities are implemented across four regional portfolios and an office in Kyiv.
JOB SUMMARY: The Driver supports the DG East project by providing reliable and efficient transportation services, ensuring timely execution of travel plans in alignment with staff appointment schedules.
REPORTING: This position reports to the Operations Director.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Transportation Services: Safely operate project vehicle(s) to transport staff and ensure punctuality for scheduled appointments.
- Compliance: Adhere to all project policies, local driving laws, and regulations.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure regular servicing of project vehicles, coordinate minor repairs, and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
- Authorized Use: Use project vehicles exclusively for official and authorized purposes as directed by the supervisor.
- Recordkeeping: Maintain daily log sheets and prepare monthly reports detailing mileage, fuel consumption, and related statistics.
- Confidentiality: Uphold a high level of discretion and confidentiality in all discussions involving project staff and operations.
- Security Awareness: Implement measures to mitigate potential security risks to staff and property during transportation.
- Incident Protocol: Follow proper procedures in compliance with local regulations in case of accidents or incidents.
- Collaboration: Foster a cooperative work environment by assisting colleagues and supporting other teams as needed within competencies.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities.
DUTY STATION: This position is located in Kyiv, Ukraine.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel throughout Ukraine is required, including newly liberated areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Secondary education or equivalent;
- Valid driver’s license with a minimum of 5 years of accident-free driving experience.
- Strong knowledge of Ukrainian traffic laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in minor and emergency vehicle repairs.
- A well-developed sense of safety and security awareness.
- Professional appearance and a service-oriented, customer-focused approach.
- Proven understanding of security protocols and best practices.
- Proficiency in Ukrainian language.
- Basic knowledge of English;
- Citizenship of Ukraine;
- Experience with USAID or other donor-funded projects is an advantage.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, respecting individuals of diverse cultural, religious, gender, and political backgrounds, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.
- Willingness to drive to newly liberated areas regularly.
