Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in in Lviv is seeking for its Energy and Climate Cluster a qualified GIZ staff member to fill the position of a:

Junior Energy Specialist (full-time, Lviv)

(internal SAP code: Junior Energy Specialist) 

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is implementing technical assistance projects funded by the Germany Ministry of Environment (BMUV) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The focus of the projects concerned is creating of pre-conditions for investments and low-carbon transformation of municipal utility infrastructure.

The project Financing Energy for Low-Carbon Investments Cities Advisory Facility Eastern Partnership and Central Asia Programme (FELICITY II) creates pre-conditions for investments in low-carbon urban infrastructure in participating countries of the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia as well as induces transformative changes at the subnational level for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) implementation. During the initial stage, FELICITY II focuses on two sectors in Ukraine: water and wastewater and residential energy-efficiency. FELICITY II benefits from an integrated approach, combining EIB’s financing expertise and GIZ’s technical assistance and capacity development capabilities.

Junior Energy Specialist is needed to support the project team in processes of development of long-term sector strategies, strengthen the regulatory framework and to increase technical capacity of municipalities in preparation and implementation of the low-carbon investment projects in water and wastewater sector as well in the rebuilding and energy efficient modernization of residential buildings, which were damaged during the full scale russian aggression.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Support the team in the implementation of all technical support activities relating to political dialogue and strategic recommendations in the field of reconstruction and energy efficient modernization of water and wastewater infrastructure and residential buildings according to EU standards, including drafting of official documents, letters and strategy papers.
  • Support in compiling, verifying, collating of data and information related to projects’ operations, screen background information and coordinate inputs on projects’ operations, monitor changes in political and economic surrounding and draft briefings.
  • Prepare local contracts and grants together with the finance and procurement unit, liaise with consultants and service providers.
  • Organize coordination sessions of the team, prepare and moderate team meetings.
  • Support in organization, implementation, documentation, communication and follow-up of workshops, trainings, stakeholder consultations and other events (offline, online, hybrid), international exchange formats and visits of international delegations.
  • Support the project team in monitoring project activities, knowledge management and document management for DMS in line with GIZ’s filing rules, keep track of forthcoming meetings and events and autonomously monitor and address open tasks and deadlines for these events.
  • Provide cross-cutting support to the project team, procurement and finance officers in performing their tasks related to the project operations.
  • Other duties and tasks at the request of management.

Required qualifications, competences and experience:

Qualifications

  • BA in Business Administration, Management, Communications, Linguistics or other relevant fields.

Professional experience

  • At least 2 years of experience, including through internships, in the sphere of sustainable development, energy and climate policy, event management or international cooperation.
  • Experience or at least interest for the topics in the in the field of climate resilient and energy efficient transformation of the urban infrastructure.
  • Preferably experience with working in international organizations, primarily in the international development cooperation sector.

Competencies

  • Good knowledge of Ukrainian and English; German knowledge should be aspired if not yet existent.
  • Excellent and proactive communicator with a service-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office package and digital conference tools.
  • Curiosity and creativity in inventing new exchange formats.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in an international context.
  • Ability to accomplish projects on own responsibility within a team.

Employment conditions

Full-time position with 40-hours working week. The contract duration is until December 2026. Duty station is Lviv, but remote place of work within Ukraine during martial law is possible.
