Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking a qualified professional for the project Felicity II – Eastern European and Central Asia Partnerships to fill the position:

Knowledge Management and Impact Optimisation Specialist (full-time, Kyiv or Lviv)
(internal SAP code: Communication Specialist)

The Energy and Climate Sector of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Ukraine comprises various projects implemented on behalf of the German government to support Ukraine on its way to transforming into an energy-efficient country. Partners of the projects are Ukrainian ministries on the national level, local communities on the municipal level, and companies in private sector. There are 15 projects in the Cluster portfolio. In their operations, they are supported by a Communications’ Unit to guarantee the proper communication of projects’ goals and results. To strengthen the Project communication structure, we are looking for a qualified professional to fill the position of Knowledge Management and Impact Optimisation Specialist.

We are looking for a full-time Knowledge Management and Impact Optimisation Specialist with a firm grasp of political realities and sensitivity to support the implementation of communication strategies with the aim to drive change through offline and online channels, to dynamically communicate to target audiences our work, key messages, and achievements. Activities of this position will focus on the regional project “Felicity II – Eastern Europe and Central Asia partnership”; which aims to ensure that the Project operating in Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan carries out the structural change associated with climate change initiatives in a socially and economically compatible and ecologically sustainable manner, with the involvement of key local stakeholders.

This position requires regular business travel throughout Ukraine, as well as across all other three countries where the Project operates.

Knowledge Management and Impact Optimisation Specialist is responsible for:

  • Organising and coordinating online and in presence communication and event activities.
  • Increasing the visibility and outreach of the Project’s portfolio via social media and other identified communication channels.
  • Ensuring quality of structural change and sustainable-driven communication strategies.
  • Identifying external communication services and agencies, prepare terms of references for contracts and accompany the implementation.
  • Delivering high quality communication products such as presentations, videos, press releases, newsletters, posts on websites, social media, fact sheets, etc.
  • Creating systems for sharing best practices, lessons learned, and expert knowledge within the Project’s teams and with their stakeholders.
  • Supporting projects with strategic orientation of communication to various target groups, while presenting a consistent corporate image throughout the 4 countries.
  • Maintaining a knowledge repository (e.g., databases, intranet) to ensure easy access to critical information.
  • Ensuring communication among the project’s teams effectively, e.g. introducing useful communication processes and elaborating structures and tools and provide them proactively with technical advisory and implementation support wherever needed.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • University degree or comparable training in Journalism, PR / Communication or equivalent education.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the field of communication (Press and Public Relations, social media, Journalism, Marketing or similar) – ideally in a related technical field (knowledge of climate and energy topics is an advantage).
  • High proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian and English. German knowledge is a plus and should aspire if not yet existent.
  • Very good oral and writing skills; competent and confident style of communication and presentation with public and target-oriented groups.
  • Experience with production of media for different information channels.
  • Experience in control and briefing of service providers and agencies.
  • Knowledge of publishing and graphics applications are desired.
  • Proficient use of MS Office Package.
  • Open-minded Team player with excellent intercultural competences.
  • Critical and creative thinker.
  • Strong commitment to and belief in the power of communication to help empower communities.
  • Strong organizational and planning competences.
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently, often under tight deadlines.
  • High degree of discretion, integrity and sense of tone.
  • Knowledge of the Ukrainian government’s reform agenda, in particular in the field of climate and energy (desirable).

Employment conditions:

Full-time position with 40-hours working week. Place of assignment is Kyiv or Lviv (TBD). Starting as soon as possible. The contract duration is 1 year with an option of extension.
