Job Description
Background and Organizational Context
Under the guidance and direct supervision of Communications Officer and overall supervision of the Head of Mission or Deputy Head of Mission, the Multimedia Communications Officer supports the development and implementation of the HRMMU communication and media strategies, which are geared to foster the promotion and the protection of human rights in Ukraine.
Key Duties and Accountabilities:
- Supports design and implementation of the communication strategy of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) for human rights promotion and increased visibility of HRMMU;
- Designs and/or edits communications and reporting materials, including images and videos for social media, infographics, leaflets, HRMMU reports, briefing papers, etc;
- Leads the maintenance and uploading the information on official websites to ensure that the content there is updated;
- Monitors and analyzes current social media trends, and advises on appropriate social media campaigns and digital products;
- Contributes to monitoring HRMMU media coverage;
- Contributes to organizing public online and offline events, including the launch of the OHCHR public reports in Ukraine, Human Rights Day etc;
- Maintains and updates stock of communications products and visibility materials of the Mission;
- Works collectively with other UN communication officers within the UN Communication and Advocacy Group (UNCAG); elaborating and participating in joint digital communications campaigns, ensuring human rights angle and approach;
- Performs other communication-related functions and special duties as required.

Recruitment Qualifications:
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in communications, journalism, media relations, public information or a related field is required. A combination of relevant academic background (at least a first level university degree i.e. bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and 2 years of extensive relevant professional experience in a related area may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Up to 2 years of professional experience in public information and/or public relations. Basic knowledge in graphic design and video editing (like Canva) is desirable.
- Drafting social media publications, press releases, human centered stories is desirable.
- Excellent computer skills are required.
- Experience working with the United Nations or a comparable international organization in Ukraine is desirable.
Languages
- Fluency in oral and written English, Ukrainian and Russian.
