Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Kyiv is seeking a qualified professional for the project “Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in Ukraine“ to fill the position:
Project Advisor (full-time, Kyiv)

Peace, Security, Flight and Migration) Advisor)
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the communities in the north, east and south of Ukraine have been particularly affected, with more than 14 million people having forced to flee their homes.
People affected by the war, veterans as well as and especially women and children, are often left alone with their trauma and burdens resulting from the various war experience. Holistic psycho-social therapy approaches are not yet available nationwide.
On behalf of the German government, GIZ Ukraine strengthens structures to provide mental health and psychosocial support to the people affected by the war; here in particular to veterans and their families, women and children, IDPs, people with disabilities, and elderly people.
The project is working with regional and municipal administrations, non-governmental organizations, local universities, and rehabilitation centers, to incorporate psychosocial services into local structures, with a regional focus on the oblasts Kirovogradska, Dnipropetrovska, and Kyivska. Psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, and specialists are receiving training to deepen their core skills, thus expanding counselling and support services to persons with war trauma and other war related experience (such as torture and violence). Cooperation among Ukrainian and international actors is also being strengthened to create synergies and use resources more efficiently.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Project Advisor is responsible for:
- managing an area of responsibility as agreed upon with the Project Director;
- building and monitoring implementing partner structures in respective oblasts of intervention;
- planning and implementing assigned activities and interventions in close coordination with the Project Director;
- controlling and monitoring the budget of assigned activities;
- developing and implementing concepts and strategies and human capacity building approaches (HCD) for assigned activities;
- implementing assigned activities independently, considering the applicable GIZ rules and regulations;
- collecting and providing relevant data for Monitoring and Evaluation;
- assisting and providing information and data for PR and communication related issues as well as for progress and information reports;
- fostering digital collaboration and innovation within the project;
- supporting GIZ PR measures (GIZ internally and externally) for project activities (articles, newsletters, database with pictures etc.);
- the Project Advisor reports to the Project Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- academic degree in Social Sciences, Health Sector, Psychology, Law, Economics, Public Administration or similar;
- at least 3 years’ professional experience in a comparable position, preferably with international stakeholders;
- at least 3 years’ experience in project management, prior work experience with GIZ is a strong asset;
- proven experience with budget management and managing of financial procedures and processes;
- excellent social and communication skill;
- proven ability to work in a politically sensitive context;
- experience in the specific needs of veterans and/or other groups directly affected by conflict is a strong asset;
- very good working knowledge of digital tools and technologies for information processing, communication, content creation, problem solving, and computer applications (e.g. MS Office) as an independent user;
- excellent language skills (written and oral) in Ukrainian and English are required, German is an asset;
- ability and willingness to travel on a regular base within (Eastern) Ukraine and abroad.

Employment conditions
Full-time position with 40-hours working week. Place of assignment is Kyiv. The contract duration is 1 year. Prolongation is possible.
