Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Ukraine is seeking for the project “GIZ contribution to the German Biosecurity Programme” a qualified professional to fill the position of a
Project Coordinator (full time or part time, Kyiv)
(internal SAP code: Financial Management and Administration (incl. Project Manager))
Since 2016 GIZ together with the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), the Friedrich Loeffler Institut (FLI) and the Bundeswehr Institute of Microbiology (IMB) have been implementing project activities to strengthen biosecurity capacities of Ukrainian partner institutions with the aim to enable them to respond effectively and efficiently to biological threats. In this context, the German Biosecurity Programme is looking for a project coordinator within a motivated project team. She/he will be responsible for the coordination of the implementation of the Biosecurity Programme’s project activities in Ukraine in close coordination with the project management in Berlin and GIZ Country Office Ukraine.
Areas of responsibilities:
- Coordinating the implementation and documentation of the Programme’s activities with the Ukrainian partners related to topics such as biosecurity and biosafety, cyber(bio)security and disinformation, which includes logistical and organizational support.
- Networking, facilitating and fostering communication, exchange and networking between actors relevant to the project, especially between new and established Ukrainian project partners, as well as between the German partner institutions FLI, BNITM and IMB.
- Approaching new potential partner organisations of the security sector in Ukraine in order to foster new partnerships within the Biosecurity Programme in Ukraine.
- Serving as focal point for the Ukrainian partners and contractors.
- Supporting the project management in drafting ToRs in line with the Programme’s aims and goals.
- Project management activities such as procurement processes, preparing documents and budget control in cooperation with the project team and the GIZ Office.
- Management of external consultants and facilitating their work, e.g. by translation.
- Providing organizational and administrative support to the project management in line with GIZ Rules and regulations (e.g. finance monitoring and accounting, supporting the preparation of documents for contracts for the procurement of services and products).
Qualifications and Experience:
- Higher-education degree in economics, management, political science or similar.
- At least 3 years of work experience in a similar position (managerial/organizational).
- work experience in the field of international development cooperation or international organizations is an asset.
- Practical experience in the facilitation of meetings, conferences or the organization of trainings.
- Very good command of Ukrainian and English. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
- Excellent working knowledge in the use of ITC technologies and digital applications.
- Knowledge of and experience with GIZ administrative processes is an advantage.
Other knowledge / competences:
- Team player with excellent intercultural competences; proactive, innovative and hands-on attitude; high degree of discretion and integrity.
- Ability to work flexibly and independently, also under stressful conditions.
- Comprehensive managerial and organizational competences.
- Very good communication and facilitation skills.
- Some knowledge of the Ukrainian partner landscape of the project is an asset (e.g. Ministry of Health, Public Health Center of Ukraine, security sector actors in Ukraine).
- Work experience in an international environment is an asset.

Employment conditions
Both full time and part time schedule is possible (40 hours or 30 hours working week). The contract duration is aimed at starting from 1st January until 31st December 2024.
