Protection officer

The Foundation Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH It) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children against all forms of violence or abuse and guaranteeing their right to protection, health and education. TDH It is currently working in 20 countries worldwide, carrying out humanitarian interventions and development projects in the sectors of protection, child protection, education, mother and child health and rehabilitation, to the benefit of thousands of children, their families, and communities.

Terre des Hommes Italy seeks candidates to fill the position of  Protection officer (National Position).

The profile must have a good knowledge of general protection, international standard, child protection and a basic knowledge of GBV and MHPSS.

Location: Kyiv with missions to project’s locations

The Protection officer will be in charge of:

• Support, mentor and supervise the TDH field team: social workers and case management workers in the implementation of the CP activities in the CFS and TLS.
• Support and supervise the TDH’ partners field team: social workers and case management workers in the implementation of the CP activities in the CFS and TLS. (In certain locations, TDH implements through national NGOs).
• Support management team in designing monitoring tools for the activities related to Protection, more in the specific on Child Protection and PSS;
• Coordinate training on General Protection, Child Protection, PSS and Psychological First Aid for TDH and partners schoolteachers, educators and parents;
• Conduct regularly field visit to project locations to monitor quality of activities and staff performance (when security allows).
• Draft monthly detailed analysis and report of the activities or ad-hoc reports of the activities when required by the management;
• Support grant and management team in the draft of technical parts of project proposals;
• Support the team in identifying, managing and reporting cases of children in difficulty to refer to dedicated and specialized services;
• Support in mapping the services in the area of intervention and facilitate the creation/strengthening of referral mechanisms;
• Attend relevant meeting and Protection, CP, GBV clusters and related working group – if relevant -and keep track of what has been reported in the various meetings on the subject;
• Support the mission in developing the Protection/CP strategy;
• Have knowledge of PSEA and ensure policies are in place in all the locations (TDH will provide a training and induction on the guideline;
• Additional Protection/CP-related tasks if required based on the ongoing initiatives of Terre des Hommes Italy;

Requirements

Education:

University degree in Psychology, Psychiatry, Social work, Education or analogue

Job experience:

• Previous experience in NGOs (at least 6 months)
• Previous experience in analogue positions (preferable at least 1 year)
• Basic knowledge of PSS and PFA

Languages

• Ukraine native language
• Fluency in English is mandatory

Personal Requirements

• Strong diplomatic interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
• Strong computer knowledge and skills.
• Ability to work independently, under pressure
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multinational team
• Ability and willingness to travel to assigned project areas.
• Valid residency in Ukraine or Ukraine nationality will be considered as a plus
