Chemonics International, an international development consulting firm, seeks a Media Program Development Assistant for a USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI)-funded Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative II (UCBI II). The position will be based in Kyiv, Ukraine.
USAID’s Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative II (UCBI II) complements ongoing USAID efforts to create a prosperous and stable Ukraine. The program provides fast, flexible, short-term assistance to Ukrainian partners in support of successful, peaceful democratic transition and community cohesion in the wake of the conflict and deepened social tensions in the East.
The program’s overarching objectives are to:
- Increase acceptance of a Ukrainian civic identity based on common values
- Broaden participation in Ukraine’s reform process
- Build trust and acceptance of objective pro-reform information
The majority of UCBI II assistance is delivered as grants to local partners, including goods, services, and technical support. UCBI works closely with a range of partners, including national and local civilian government entities, civil society organizations, media organizations and community leaders to ensure that activities respond to local priorities and address underlying tensions.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Proactively identify and conceptualize new potential media activities that are appropriate to respond to the current Ukrainian political and social situation and UCBI’s established program goals and objectives.
- Assist the Grant Management Unit to develop new activity concepts, draft concept notes, and contribute to the writing of grant activities.
- Provide assistance to potential grantees and partners, as required, during the activity preparation and implementation stages, including developing and managing digital marketing campaigns across all relevant platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc.)
- Facilitate communication between UCBI staff and partners.
- Monitor ongoing activities, which may include, social media monitoring, attending activity events, gathering information requested by UCBI staff, writing updates and brief analytical reports on the activity impact and progress using web analytical tools (Google analytics, etc.), attend coordination meetings for project development and implementation.
- Organize meetings with partners, focus groups discussions, presentations for community leaders and experts.
- Monitor to ensure that activity implementation and reporting adheres to activity agreement and timelines.
- Take a leading role for the Grant Management Unit in updating the online database to track and report on grant activities at each phase in the activity cycle.
- Evaluate activities progress, and coordinate with grantees and other UCBI II staff to ensure that Monitoring and Evaluation data and final monitoring reports (FMRs) are drafted and finalized.
- Travel as required to inspect equipment at grantee sites and report on activity progress.
- Provide oral and written translations to and from English as required.
- Perform any other tasks requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
- This is a junior level technical position for people with 1 to 3 years’ experience.
- Proven working experience in media, digital marketing and promotion is a must.
- Experience working with donor-funded community development projects in the region and/or NGOs is preferred.
- Although the position is Kyiv-based, the successful candidate must be able to travel.
- Familiarity with the socio/political situation in the areas where UCBI operates.
- Native fluency in Ukrainian/Russian required; professional proficiency in English is required.
- Computer fluency, including social media platforms, MS Word, Excel, email and internet research.
- University degree is required.
