Chemonics International, a global consulting and international development firm, seeks a Communications Director, full-time position, for the USAID-funded Competitive Economy Program (CEP). This five-year program will encourage startup businesses and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), increase domestic market competition, and support the competitiveness of Ukrainian firms in international markets. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

The Communications Director will lead the development, implementation, and management of the program’s communications strategy to ensure effective communication of results to the client, partners, and the public. The Communications Director will ensure CEP’s communication plan highlights the program activity success in accordance with USAID branding policies and guidelines. S/he will manage overall contract deliverables preparation and reporting, including quarterly and annual plans, and respond to all communications-related requests from USAID. The Communications Director will work with all project components to support the design of effective public outreach campaigns for events and associated materials and activities for project-related communications efforts. As appropriate, the Communications Director will identify any needs for capacity building and oversee and/or directly provide training or guidelines to the CEP team or external partners, including grantees, regarding communications or branding guidelines. The Communications Director will supervise the communications team members and delegate and manage tasks appropriately amongst team members.

The Communications Director should have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in communications, marketing, or related field required;
  • Demonstrated experience writing project reports including qualitative and quantitative activity successes; familiarity with USAID reporting requirements and procedures preferred;
  • Superior communications skills, verbal and written, including the ability to engage effectively with staff at all levels; lead presentations; and distill complex information into clear, concise messaging;
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain relationships with project stakeholders including client and private sector partners;
  • Successful experience working in communications or public relations including communications strategy and product development and use of website and social media platforms;
  • Experience with change management and communicating large-scale initiatives across multiple target audiences preferred;
  • Previous experience supervising and training team members in communications;
  • Professional fluency in English and Ukrainian.
