Position Title: Senior Project Assistant (Social Cohesion)
Duty Station: Severodonetsk, Ukraine
Classification: General Service Staff, Grade G6
Type of Appointment: Special Short-Term, Six months with possibility of extension
Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, the Emergency and Stabilization Programme Coordinator and the Project Officer (Protection), and direct supervision of the Head of Field Office in Severodonetsk, the successful candidate will provide specialized support to the implementation of the Emergency and Stabilization Unit’s project funded by the Government of Japan and any other related programming portfolio (social cohesion, livelihood and protection).
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Support Programme Coordinator and Project Officer (Protection) in the overall planning, implementation and monitoring of the Emergency and Stabilization Unit’s project funded by the Government of Japan (social cohesion, livelihood and protection).
- Assist in the coordination of IOM Ukraine Emergency and Stabilization Unit’s efforts within the context of social cohesion, livelihood and protection programming.
- Liaise with relevant national and local working-level government contacts and community initiative groups supported by IOM programmes.
- Support the mapping of social cohesion, livelihood and protection needs and beneficiaries in the targeted areas.
- Work together with in-house monitoring and evaluation team to devise and implement a monitoring system for social cohesion, livelihood and protection efforts.
- Contribute to the logistics related activities (contracting implementing partners – NGOs, consultants, procurement of goods and services, planning and preparation of the field missions) as necessary.
- Contribute to regular reporting (IOM internal, IOM external, UN-related, including 3W,5W and situation reporting), correspondence, publication and presentation materials.
- Provide information gathering management support to social cohesion, livelihood and protection programming in conflict-affected areas.
- Track relevant national development pertaining to social cohesion, livelihood and protection and analyse, summarize and present findings as well as to suggest potential intervention options.
- Organize and/or take part in social cohesion-related events (meetings, presentations, discussions, visits, etc.) with relevant agencies/organizations, NGOs, governmental structures, communities.
- Provide inputs and recommend improvements to the planning and delivery of programme activities.
- Undertake duty travel within Ukraine pertinent to social cohesion, livelihood and protection programming on an as-needed basis.
- Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- High school diploma/certificate or equivalent with at least six years of relevant work experience
OR
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited academic institution (preferably in International Relations/Development) with at least four years of relevant work experience.
Experience
- Work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non?government or government institutions/organization in a multi?cultural setting is a strong advantage.
- Previous work experience in the areas of social cohesion, livelihood and protection is an advantage.
- Experience of cooperating with governmental authorities and local communities throughout Ukraine is an added advantage.
- Knowledge and understanding of the context and the emergency response in Ukraine are an asset.
- Proficiency in computer skills, especially MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word etc.).
- Knowledge of the social cohesion, livelihood and protection and/or areas related to the IOM mandate will be a strong asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office package, Google applications, teleconferencing tools; advanced Excel skills will be a strong asset.
Languages
Fluency in English, Ukrainian is required; Russian is desirable.
