Chemonics International, a global consulting and international development firm, seeks a Communications Director, full-time position, for the USAID-funded Competitive Economy Program (CEP). CEP is a five-year program to increase the competitiveness of startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ukraine, as well as to increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian products in foreign markets, through a combined focus on improving Ukraine’s business enabling environment, increasing private sector competitiveness, increasing access to finance and investments, promoting exports, and facilitating trade. In coordination with other program teams, the Communications Director (Director) will lead the development, implementation, and management of the program’s communications of activities and results, including of government counterparts, partners, and grantees. The Director will lead a team of staff on preparation of weekly and quarterly reports and other materials including success stories, fact sheets, media posts, campaigns, events materials, speeches, and press releases; manage coordination with USAID on program communications, training materials, and deliverables; and ensure compliance with USAID branding policies for all project deliverables and events. The Director will monitor and support capacity-building and guidance to program staff, counterparts, partners, and grantees.
The Director’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Produce and review all communications in English and Ukrainian.
- Ensure compliance with program and USAID communications timelines and requirements.
- Lead a communications team to monitor and guide program staff, counterparts, partners, and grantees on program communications as required.
- Coordinate regularly with the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) team to communicate program performance data to ensure effective communications about project initiatives and successes, and that project communications demonstrate expected results.
- Communicate on a daily basis with program leadership and USAID on all communications approaches and materials.
- Contribute to achieving project results by undertaking other tasks, duties, or leadership responsibilities as required, consistent with project objectives and the technical skills required for the position.
The required and/or preferred qualifications for the Communications Director position are:
- Degree in communications, marketing, or related field required.
- Demonstrated experience writing communications materials and managing public relations for donor-funded programs or the private sector.
- Familiarity with USAID reporting requirements and procedures preferred.
- Proven communications skills, verbal and written, including the ability to engage effectively with staff, counterparts, partners, and grantees at all levels; lead presentations; and distill complex information into clear, concise messages.
- Strong ability to develop and maintain positive communications with a wide range of program stakeholders, including private sector partners.
- Experience communicating large-scale and complex initiatives across multiple target audiences preferred.
- Previous experience supervising and training others on effective communications preferred.
- Professional fluency, written and spoken, in English and Ukrainian required.
