PROGRAM BACKGROUND

Handicap International “HI” (operating as Humanity & Inclusion) is an independent and impartial international aid organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, our action and testimony are focused on responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights.

HI is currently opening a multi-sectoral life-saving assistance to displaced and non-displaced populations in Ukraine such as :  Protection, shelter, health, NFIs, food security and livelihoods, water, sanitation, hygiene, and education and strengthening and supporting access to mental health and psychosocial support; provision of basic and domestic items including food, unrestricted cash assistance, and core relief items.

General Mission

The clinician contributes to the delivery of physical and functional rehabilitation care to patients targeted by the HI intervention. 

Missions/Responsibilities 

Responsibility 1-Expertise

1.1 Provides technical expertise for his/her project

  1. Complies with international technical norms and standards when implementing clinical activities/within his/her area of expertise (occupational therapist or physiotherapist, in community intervention: awareness-raising…)
  2. Identifies the need to adapt project documentation in accordance with international technical norms and standards.
  3. Identifies the need of telerehabilitation follow-up for the beneficiaries
  4. Raises awareness of rehabilitation norms and standards among members of multidisciplinary teams
  5. Is responsible for the technical quality and relevance of the therapeutic activities carried out within his/her area of expertise.
  6. Informs his/her technical authority about the identified technical needs
  7. Adjusts his/her activities according to audit recommendations
  8. Improves his/her technical capacity by building on lessons learned and good practices identified from the project
  9. Respects the codes of ethics related to his or her profession and organisation

1.2 Contribute to professional development

  1. Carries out self-assessment of his/her clinical practice and identifies strengths and areas of needed improvement towards professional development
  2. Identifies jointly with his/her technical authority his/her professional development plan
  3. Attends selected activities (community of practice, professional training) proposed for professional development and according to professional development plan designed with technical authority
  4. Contributes to practice analyses with colleagues towards professional practice development 

Responsibility 2-Implementation and monitoring

2.1 Ensures the implementation of therapeutic activities, in collaboration with the appropriate services and in accordance with international (or, if not national) procedures and standards.

  1. Assesses the functional capacities and rehabilitation needs of beneficiaries and their caregivers
  2. Defines personalised therapeutic action plans
  3. Provides rehabilitation services (therapeutic education and care, and technical aids) to beneficiaries and their caregivers
  4. Adapts treatment plans according to the progresses and needs of the beneficiaries and their caregivers.
  5. Adapts exercises and recommendations to ensure continuity in the home environment. Proposes related home adaptations if needed.
  6. Ensures that care is provided with respect for the person (safe environment, respect for safety rules, dignity, confidentiality)
  7. Informs and trains beneficiaries and caregivers on the rehabilitation process, and exercises and adaptations to be continued in the home
  8. Demonstrates awareness of relevant referral pathways. Identifies and reports referral needs
  9. Provides public health relevant messages to households and communities, linked to rehabilitation specificities
  10. Updates beneficiaries’ files according to the activities carried out and observed changes in the situation.
  11. Keeps updated on beneficiary overall conditions and treatment plan. Collaborates with the other social, health and rehabilitation professionals involved in the beneficiary treatment plan.
  12. Ensures a daily quantitative and qualitative report on the activities, through the tools put in place

2.2 Contributes to team and project life

  1. Identifies and shares with the project team any situational changes that may have an impact on the target population and/or project
  2. Participates in the qualitative analysis of the project to adapt the activities according to the needs of the beneficiaries and the context.

Responsibility 3-Influence

Contributes to the reputation of HI’s expertise in rehabilitation (national and international conferences)

Qualification(s):

 

  • Bachelor (or state diploma) of physiotherapist or occupational therapist

 

 

Experience (type and amount of experience) :

 

 

  • At least 2 years of clinical experience in the country of origin
  • Previous experience working in humanitarian programs
  • Previous experience with HI.
 

Skills (knowledge, abilities required for the position, refer to skills repository document) :

 

  • Professional skills: Clinical management of rehabilitation of beneficiaries, Standards and Guides for Rehabilitation Professions/Services at HI, Building professional capacities (training, support, change of conduct) in rehabilitation in humanitarian settings

 

  • Being capable of helping team members to plan and review the drafted plans

 Salary: As per HI salary scale

Duration of Contract: 2 months with possibility of renewal
