Subject to confirmed funding, the successful applicant will manage and coordinate all local activity under a new expected IWPR initiative, Ukraine Voices, which will provide extensive support to journalists and fixers operating in Ukraine, including editorial and safety support, mentoring, networking opportunities, and translation resources. This will culminate in a range of media outputs providing vital information to Ukrainian and international audiences.
The Project Manager will play a key role in day-to-day implementation of the project in Ukraine, overseeing a small team of consultants and partners delivering a range of media production and capacity building outputs. They will be responsible for budgeting for local activities, adhering to safety and security procedures, coordinating events, and ensuring activities are delivered according to set timelines and key milestones.
The Project Manager will be tasked with managing and coordinating implementation between IWPR, local partners, national and international experts, and key donor contacts, ensuring that project activities are conducted in a consistent manner. The Project Manager will be the primary point of contact for project beneficiaries and local partners, and take lead responsibility for local budgetary, security and administrative matters.
The successful applicant may be expected to work on additional smaller IWPR initiatives in Ukraine as and when required, including in the areas of media and CSO development.
You will:
- Ensure the delivery of project outputs and compliance with approved work and activity plans in line with donor rules and regulations;
- Assist with media production outputs and editorial matters, liaising directly with contributing journalists, in tandem with IWPR’s editorial team;
- Take overall responsibility for local budget, security and project administrative matters;
- Edit and contribute to programmatic reporting and M&E development. Gather information and prepare reports for program M&E procedures;
- Oversee local fees and stipends administered under the project;
- Coordinate and manage local partners and international technical advisors working on the project;
- Assist with local hiring, including roles such as trainers, contributing journalists, and administrative support, as necessary;
- Oversee all procurement required for the project, such as media equipment;
- Liaise with local and international media on publishing content connected to the project, promoting the project’s outputs wherever possible;
- Ensure adherence to all IWPR and donor policies and procedures and all local labour laws;
- Assist with social media accounts and postings to promote project activities, in-line with IWPR / donor rules and regulations;
- Represent IWPR as is necessary in order to deliver on project activities;
- Coordinate activities with other implementers, stakeholders, and institutions, where relevant;
- Compile materials for project use, as well as wider communications materials, monthly newsletters and IWPR’s global website when required;
- Ensure a work environment that is non-discriminatory and promotes open dialogue on gender-related and culturally sensitive issues;
- Report to IWPR Associate Regional Director.
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Minimum five years of project management experience in fields such as media, international development, and civil society, ideally with a UK Government contracting or grant mechanism. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong experience of media production, including coordinating teams producing materials across a range of media, including print, TV, and online.
- Experience managing projects, including budgetary and security responsibility. Ability to manage multiple streams of work, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
- Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with donors, stakeholders, in-country collaborators, and staff in Ukraine. Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures in an open-minded, non-dogmatic manner.
- Experience with a range of donor funded projects, in particular UK Government funded projects. Other European donors (Netherlands, Norway, EU etc) are particularly welcome.
- Experience overseeing grant and service contract delivery with a range of partners.
- Strong communication skills in English, Ukrainian, and Russian, including the ability to write in a clear, concise, well-organised manner. Proficiency in other languages is welcome.
- Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Ability to travel (security permitting).
