JOB DESCRIPTION

Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the assistant position is to assist in the day to day implementation of the education project. Education assistants will support all field level operations including school improvement, Better Learning Program BLP, and possible youth interventions in Kiev AO
Generic responsibilities
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines, with strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies.
- Assist a range of support with the implementation of the Education CC portfolio according to plan of action.
- Implement and monitor project activities upon workplan under coordination of Education Coordinator.
- Responsible for organising and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team.
- Use initiative in day-to-day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
- Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
- Ensure proper filing of documents.
- Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and the host community in-line with SPERE and INEE Minimum Standards
Specific responsibilities
- To assist in the implementation of education activities under direction of the Education Coordinator
- Provide support to NRC school improvement and BLP activities in line with NRC quality standards
- Ensure direct communication and feedback with beneficiaries and relevant host communities
- Ensure ongoing monitoring and reporting of projects at field level
- Organize, support, in teacher training, education personnel training, and training of trainers (ToT) training on subjects including teacher wellbeing, child protection, and psycho-social support.
- Regularly travel to the field to support education, recreation and psycho-social support (PSS) activities
- Participate in assessments (design, data collection)
- Organize and follow up school improvement activities in coordination with Shelter team and other relevant NRC Core Competencies.
- Identify community-based organizations / other local organizations for potential PSS/Mental Health partnerships and support the coordination;
- Any other task relevant to the position as requested by line manager.

Generic professional competencies:
- Experience working in education sector in Ukraine.
- Experience working in humanitarian/emergency context is an asset.
- Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts; ability to remain calm and professional in tense situations.
- Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian, both written and verbal required; intermediate English language skills required.
- Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel is required
- Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting
Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
- Good understanding of the education system in Ukraine. Knowledge of the Education in Emergencies context is preferred
- Understanding of the circumstances, needs and challenges trauma-affected children face
- Understanding of the role of education in meeting the needs of trauma-affected children
- Understanding of SPHERE and/or INEE minimum standards
- Knowledge of the basics of Child Protection and/or psychosocial support
- Experience working with children and/or educators; MoE-level experience a plus
- Experience in community mobilization and/or relationship building
- Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred
