POSITION SUMMARY

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is a non-profit organization working to strengthen democracy worldwide. NDI programs in Ukraine are supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Sweden, Canada, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

NDI-Ukraine is currently seeking to fill the position of a Program Assistant/ Senior Program Assistant for the Citizen Engagement Program.

About the Citizen Engagement Program: NDI’s Citizen Engagement program works with national civil society organizations that engage citizens to take an active part in the political processes and national reforms, and to build dialogue with political parties, to utilize inclusive and consensus-building practices, to create pressure and persuade political decision-makers to amend legislation, and to observe elections. NDI civic partners engage citizens in discussion about reforms and local issues during forums and public consultations, debate tournaments, forum theaters, and via electronic and social media. Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, NDI civic partners raise citizen awareness about the war in Ukraine, the country’s reconstruction and recovery process and the reform issues to meet the EU recommendations. 

JOB TITLE: Citizen Engagement Program Assistant/ Senior Program Assistant, NDI Ukraine (Kyiv-based)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support development and implementation of NDI’s Citizen Engagement program in Ukraine;
  • Contribute to analysis of political and civic context, implementation of reforms and national recovery process in Ukraine;
  • Contribute to regular program reports of the Citizen Engagement team; 
  • Contribute to drafting stories of resilience and bravery of NDI civic partners;
  • Support NDI’s communication with civic partners;
  • Contribute to the review of civic partners’ reports and ensure their timely submission; 
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of program activities and civic partners’ activities;
  • Contribute to the planning and logistical and administrative support of offline and online program-related activities; 
  • Provide oral interpretation and written translation from English into Ukrainian and vice versa  as required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, Linguistics or Public Administration or related field;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Ukrainian and English is required;
  • Keen interest in contributing to civil society development, Ukraine’s recovery and national reforms;
  • Excellent understanding of political and civic landscape in Ukraine;
  • Work experience in a related field is a plus;
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to present clear and concise analysis;
  • Experience in storytelling is a plus;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs, Google suite, Google Meet, Zoom and other online platforms)

Please be informed that this is a Kyiv-based position implying a need for physical presence at the office (minimum of 2-3  days per week) and/or offline activities conducted by NDI.
