INTERSOS Ukraine is a subdivision of the international humanitarian organization INTERSOS.

We provide support to victims of emergencies, armed conflicts and natural disasters with particular attention to the most vulnerable categories: children, women, elderly people, displaces persons, who were forced to flee their homes and moved to safer places and also to those who cannot leave the dangerous regions and are under constant threat.

INTERSOS emergency teams are in Vinnytsia, Poltava, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv and now expand their activities in Mykolaiv and Kherson.

We are opening a vacancy of the Communication Officer

Location: Dnipro or Odessa
Duration of the Contract: till the end of year with possibility for extension.

Main Purpose:

Contribute to the implementation of operational communication strategy and strengthen external communications in the mission according to INTERSOS standards.

Aim at building INTERSOS visibility, acceptance, and leverage inside the country.

Focus on media alert, local media management, and content diffusion and support the production of quality multimedia materials.

The Country Communications Officer will support the production of quality multimedia materials and strengthening external communications by directly reporting to the Head of Mission or to the Communications Focal Point designated by the Head of Mission, while always functionally coordinating all activities with the Communications and Fundraising Department.

Tasks:

Internal Communications and Accountability

  • Monitor the local press highlighting any content that may be relevant for the humanitarian response in the country and for INTERSOS’ programmes;
  • Implement an ‘early warning system’ on relevant issues and news
  • Establish and manage the INTERSOS Mission Facebook page, including developing and publishing posts adhering to INTERSOS communication guidelines and ensuring its appropriate functioning as a tool for accountability and communication with communities.
  • Analyze and report traffic on the INTERSOS Facebook page
  • Ensure, in coordination with Project/ Programme Managers and, under the supervision of the Comms Focal Point, the respect of visibility guidelines and donors’ compliance.
  • Ensure, under the supervision of the Comms Focal Point, the compliance of all internal and external people collecting multimedia materials to INTERSOS’ protection, communications, and privacy policies and guidelines.
  • Provide technical training to staff members to increase their ability to produce multimedia content material

External Communications

  • Support Project/ Programme Managers in documenting project activities and related humanitarian issues by producing multimedia materials for INTERSOS external communications.
  • Support and follow up (as requested by Program/PMs) on collecting multimedia materials requested by Donors for their internal and external communications.
  • Manage the production of multimedia materials for external communications. Is directly involved in collecting stories, aggregating data, pitching news, taking pictures, filming and editing videos throughout the mission, with frequent field visits to be planned accordingly with security and mission priorities.
  • Produce written content such as press releases, reactive lines, Q&As, op-eds, and updates on INTERSOS’ activities.
  • Support operational communications by providing tools and directly engaging in producing specific materials.
  • Support the production of institutional communication and visibility materials at the mission level.
  • Map International and Local Media
  • Manage when requested, and upon final decision of the HoM, the relations with international and national journalists who approach INTERSOS;
  • Support the organization of Media Field Visits coordinated with the HQ;
  • Establish and manage INTERSOS mission Facebook page, including developing and publishing posts in adherence with communication guidelines and ensure its appropriate functioning as a tool for accountability and communication with communities
  • Analyse and report traffic on the INTERSOS Facebook page

Professional Experience:

  • Previous journalistic experience (preferential)
  • Previous experience with INGOs in communications sector (preferential)
  • Previous experience in social media content management (or similar)

Professional Requirements:

  • Video/Photo shooting and editing
  • Excellent Writing skills
  • Proficient use of Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin), WordPress and the Office Suite Programmes.

Languages:

  • Fluent English

Personal Requirements:

  • Strong motivation and adherence to the humanitarian principles and the mission of INTERSOS
  • Availability to travel on national territory
  • Flexibility in working hours, weekends/holidays when required by the situation/ context
  • Strong attitude for teamwork and collaboration within a complex organization.
  • Ability to adapt to unexpected events.
