Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is seeking an Intern for the Supporting Structural Changes in Ukrainian Coal Regions Project.
The aim of the project “Support for Structural Change in Ukrainian Coal Regions” is to ensure that Ukraine carries out the structural change associated with the coal phase-out in a socially and economically compatible and ecologically sustainable manner.
In the upcoming decade, unprofitable state-owned coal mines will be seizing its operations. This poses major social and economic challenges for the coal regions. The structural change needed to overcome them, based on the concepts of Just Transition and Green Recovery, can provide new impetus for the development and growth in the affected regions, and beyond. Decarbonization of the economy also makes a significant contribution to Ukraine’s ability to raise its level of ambition in the context of global climate protection. In light of the war in Ukraine, the project currently focuses on reconstruction and recovery efforts in the Ukrainian energy sector and supports Western coal regions in their efforts to host internally displaced persons.
The intern will be responsible for:
- Managing project documentation and materials, including compilation, editing, translation, and report writing;
- Assisting in organizing events, meetings and joint briefings with other organizations and partners;
- Keeping detailed meeting minutes;
- Supporting with preparing visitor programmes, drawing up travel schedules, organising transport of visitors and making hotel and ticket reservations;
- Providing translation services for diverse incoming and outgoing documents as required;
- Communicating and corresponding with government institutions, partners, and project experts.
Required qualifications, experience, and competences:
- Education: student of 3-6 courses of the social sciences, international relations, economy, energy efficiency or related field;
- Experience: previous internships and/or work portfolio would be a plus;
- Languages: Ukrainian, English (B2 and higher);
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Willingness to work conscientiously;
- Availability to work both online and offline (office in Kyiv city centre) around 20 hours per work week.
Conditions:
