Organisation Background:

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training. INSO provides daily support to more than 1000 NGOs operating in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

INSO Ukraine Country Office

INSO Ukraine opened in 2015. Since February 2022, it has rapidly expanded to a full platform serving the needs of NGOs in a fast-evolving conflict. Currently, over 230 national and international NGOs receive INSO services. Our country office is in Kyiv, supported by field offices in Lviv, Dnipro, and Odesa. As part of INSO Ukraine, you will play a key role in supporting NGOs and helping aid to reach people in need.

Job Summary

You will contribute to the development, contextualization, organization, delivery, and evaluation of training courses to assist both national and international NGOs in organizational safety and crisis management, as well as personal risk mitigation and humanitarian access.

You should have a strong background in NGO safety and security, be outgoing, inquisitive and detail oriented, and have significant experience building and delivering high quality curriculum along with impact monitoring. You will have the ability to adapt training to the prevailing context. The ideal candidate will above all else share INSO’s commitment to humanitarian principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning and the logistical preparation of training sessions.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate training sessions.
  • Prepare post-training reports containing lessons learned, participant evaluation analysis, etc.
  • Contribute to the development and contextualization of training courses.
  • Prepare for and participate in the facilitation of NGO meetings to identify specific training needs and gaps.
  • Be proactive in improving training content and methods.
  • Contribute to a positive public perception of INSO’ work to establish and maintain recognition of its mandate for independence, impartiality and neutrality.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English (written and spoken).
  • Graduate level education in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in facilitating training.
  • Recent experience working on the Ukrainian response, ideally in an NGO safety and security role or equivalent,  ideally at the field level – and demonstrable understanding of the context.
  • Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety practices and principles.
  • Computer Skills: competency in Microsoft Office including Power Point and Excel.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and values.
  • Familiarity with the philosophy, priorities, and principles of humanitarian NGOs and NGO approaches to security.
  • Ability to excel in a multicultural work environment.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Experience in design and development of bespoke safety training curricula for NGOs.
  • Medical or first aid qualifications.
  • Understanding of national authorities, especially security authorities and authorities involved in humanitarian access, their respective functions and ways of operating.

Terms and Conditions 

Official 12-month contract with a 3-month probationary period with expected start date of 04 March 2024. INSO provides a gross salary 75,000 UAH, two days per month of paid leave, health insurance, as well as any social benefits as required by Ukrainian law.
