Position Description:
The Press and Media Specialist oversees press and media operations for the Mission, promoting an understanding of and support for U.S. policy. Serves as chief advisor to the Mission on policy advocacy through media engagement. Identifies long-term trends and emerging policy-relevant issues and advises Mission leadership on strategies for promoting accurate, balanced Ukrainian press and media coverage of U.S. foreign policy and American interests, correcting misinformation and countering disinformation. Monitors, analyzes, and reports on Ukrainian press and media coverage of issues of importance to the United States. Builds productive relationships with press and media professionals, including media owners, editors, producers, and journalists. Develops and coordinates media tours and journalist training and exchange programs.
Qualifications required:
- EDUCATION:
A university degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or local equivalent is required.
- EXPERIENCE:
Five years of experience is required in a media outlet, international organization, government, or the private sector.
Must have experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or public affairs.
- JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Detailed knowledge of Ukrainian political, economic, social, and cultural policies and trends is required. A comprehensive understanding of Ukrainian press and media institutions and professional journalism standards and practices, as well as trends in audience preferences for information consumption (print, TV, radio, online), is required. Must have a detailed understanding of communication trends in the region and internationally as they affect the Ukrainian information landscape and must be familiar with influence patterns in information flow.
- SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Analytic skills, communication and interpersonal skills, management and event management skills. Detailed knowledge of various computer software programs, specifically Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and databases, is required. Ability to use social medial, digital, media platforms.
Fluent (speaking/reading/writing) in English and Ukrainian is required.
