Job title: Electro-Mechanical Engineer Specialist

Location: this position is based in Kyiv and project sites in Ukraine.

Level of Effort: Full-time, long-term position.

The Electro-Mechanical Engineer Specialist collaborates closely with the International Irrigation Design and Construction Supervision Engineer (IIDCSE) to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of electro-mechanical equipment within irrigation infrastructures and micro-irrigation facilities. He will contribute to the design, operation, and maintenance of gates, pumps, pressurized pipes, and sprinklers/drip systems to support irrigation needs. He will also support for the preparation of bidding drawings, BOQs, and technical specifications of electro-mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participating in the design phase to select suitable gates, pumps, pipes, valves, and other components, ensuring optimal pressure levels and flow rates.
  2. Designing customized electro-mechanical gates tailored to the specific requirements of the irrigation system.
  3. Developing control systems and automation features to enhance water flow regulation and irrigation efficiency.
  4. Establishing criteria for evaluating the performance and reliability of electro-mechanical components.
  5. Selecting appropriate pumps, valves, and control systems to ensure efficient water distribution and pressure regulation.
  6. Overseeing the integration of electro-mechanical components with the irrigation infrastructure for seamless operation.
  7. Conducting comprehensive testing to verify system functionality, including pressure and flow rate assessments.
  8. Addressing and resolving any operational issues that arise, including electrical troubleshooting and maintenance.
  9. Monitoring system performance to identify optimization opportunities, such as adjusting pump speeds or implementing automation.
  10. Ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations related to water usage and runoff.
  11. Developing operation and maintenance manuals for the irrigation equipment.
  12. Supporting the IIDCSE in achieving program targets and deliverables.
  13. Assisting in developing training materials and providing training for irrigation/drainage design activities.
  14. Participating in relevant meetings and workshops related to irrigation/drainage design.
  15. Keeping infrastructure managers and the IIDCSE informed of significant issues related to design services.

Supervision and Reporting:

The Electro-Mechanical Engineer Specialist reports directly to the IIDCSE.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electro-mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction and maintenance projects for electro-mechanical power works, preferably in pumped irrigation and sprinkler irrigation equipment, with experience in projects funded by international donors.
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in or with the Ukrainian national or municipal government.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; Ukrainian language skills are a plus.
