Information Management Аssociate – Graphic Designer
Background  
UNOCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. UNOCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response effort. 
Under the direct supervision of the International Information Management Officer, Information Management Associate – Graphic Designer (IMA) will be working as part of the Information Management Unit and closely collaborating with the colleagues from the Coordination Unit and Public Information/Comms Unit as well as with other Units and the field offices. The IMA will be an integral part a team of the Information Management Officers, Data Managers, and Geographic Information System (GIS) Associates. 
The IMA will contribute to the development of information products, visualization and story content, as well manage content across OCHA’s digital platforms. The IMA will ensure that the quality of the information products produced by the Information Management Unit corresponds to the highest standards and adhere to the OCHA branding guidelines and other standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
 

Summary of key functions:
•Provision of graphic design support in the development of information products and maintainefficient and effective processes for the delivery of timely and high-quality outputs and the management of content;
•Provision of support in communication and information exchange with relevant OCHA teams andother stakeholders to strengthen product development and the dissemination of content.
Provision of graphic design support in the development of information products and maintain
efficient and effective processes for the delivery of timely and high-quality outputs and the
management of content through:
• Assists in the production and update of information products, including online services, by
turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline;
• In close collaboration with the IM staff and under the guidance of the supervisor, develop information product requirements and provide the graphic design support in the preparation of infographics, visualizations, and reports;
• Develops advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other visual materials; Maintains a client focus and manages workflows and practices for the preparation of routine products;
• Manages content on relevant web platforms, undertakes quality control for the platform and ensures content is current, comprehensive and follows relevant metadata standards;
• Works with external counterparts on related web platforms such as agency and cluster websites and OCHA managed platforms to facilitate cross-site search and interoperability.
• Monitoring and identifying new and emerging tools, technologies, platforms and services, to support efficient function of UNOCHA content management systems;
• Develop ad hoc analysis and products on demand for OCHA and the HPC as required.
Provision of support in communication and information exchange with relevant OCHA teams and other stakeholders to strengthen product development and the dissemination of content through:
• Supports the development of information products through consultations with other OCHA units in the identification of requirements and the creation of content;
• Supports the coordination of the information management working group in accordance with IASC guidance to facilitate humanitarian information exchange and the promotion of data and information standards;
• Provides training and expertise on the use and development of information management tools and platforms to OCHA staff and humanitarian partners;
• Helps facilitate and coordinate relevant working groups, including briefings, preparation of meeting records, tracking of attendance, etc.

Perform other duties as required by the Unit.

 

The key results have an impact on the effectiveness of the Information Management Unit and UNOCHA office in Ukraine. The efficient and effective development of information products strengthens the capacity of UNOCHA Ukraine to advocate for- and deliver a more effective humanitarian response.

Job/Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of information technology and its application in work assignments; deep knowledge of need assessment, information management, and capacity development related to information management; keeps abreast of new developments in area of the professional discipline of information management and systems

Required Skills and Experience

           Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. University degree in Information Management/information systems, Computer Science or any other related to the post description field is desired, but not a requirement.

    Experience:

  • 6 years or 3 years (with Bachelor degree) of progressively responsible experience in information management (graphic design, development of information products, online content management) ) or relevant field are required.
  • Advanced technical skills in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Excel and Power BI, and similar programs are highly desired. 
  • Familiarity with the UN system (especially Information
    Management area) would be desirable.
  • Previous experience with the UN or a multilateral or international organization will be an asset.

     
          Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian is required. Knowledge of Russian is desirable.
